About Micah

My dog Coco Bear
My dog CoCo Bear
Greetings! My name is Micah Orloff and you are probably reading this because you are:

a) considering or currently registered for a course for which I am the instructor of record and you want to make sure I am not a nut

or...

b) completely lost.
Either way, let me share a little bit about me...

Personal: I was recently married on August 26, 2007 to my lovely wife, Alicia.  We have no human children, but our chocolate labs, CoCo Bear (pictured above) and Bella are quite a handful.  Coco Bear has managed to turn my 14 ft queen palms into mini bonzai trees...(BTW, I call him just Bear - its a more macho name - besides he weighs 105 lbs). He's a mama's boy. Bella (not pictured) was a rescue and she is in a very independent phase where she chases birds and digs wholes to China.

Education: I am a product of Mt. San Jacinto College, completing my Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems with a certificate in Networking. I completed my Bachelor's Degree at California State University in Administration with a concentration in Information Management.  I have completed my Master's (also at California State University) in Education with a concentration in Instructional Technology.

Career: I served as the Distance Education Network Coordinator for Mt. San Jacinto College from 2001-2006. I have seen the online program grow from 2 online courses to over 270 sections in that span. I have been teaching in the Computer Information Systems and Computer Applications disciplines at MSJC since 2005. I have also worked as an independent contractor delivering technology trainings, instructional design consultancy, and system repair. Most recently, I started working for the @ONE Project, which is a state funded grant that coordinates technology training for the faculty and staff of the 112 California Community Colleges.  I deliver online seminars and coordinate their hands on training institutes. Oh, I manage all their technology too!

Credentials: I hold certifications for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) in PowerPoint and Excel 2003.  I am also a Microsoft Certified Office Master and Application Specialist (MCAS) Instructor. I am a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Windows Vista and a certified trainer (MCT) in a variety of disciplines.

Well that is me in a nutshell. I can guarantee you a few things - I am a nut (minus the shell). But somewhere along the nutty adventure, we will have a blast and learn a lot about each other and the subject.
